Our Heritage

From Rajasthan to North Gujarat

The Shree Jain Visha Oshwal Seva Samaj traces its roots to the region of Rajasthan, India, where our ancestors first established their community and way of life. Rooted in the values of Jainism — non-violence (Ahimsa), truth, and simplicity — our forebears built a community defined as much by its faith as by its enterprise.

Over time, in pursuit of work, trade, and better opportunities, our ancestors began migrating eastward from Rajasthan into North Gujarat. This migration was not a single event but a gradual movement across generations, as families sought new towns and markets where their skills in business and trade could take root and flourish.

Settling in 21 Villages

As our ancestors moved into North Gujarat, they settled across 21 villages, establishing homes, businesses, and community institutions in each. These villages became the foundation of the Visha Oshwal identity in Gujarat — each carrying its own local traditions while remaining connected through shared faith, customs, and kinship.

The Journey to Mumbai

Having settled and built strong roots across these 21 villages, a new generation of the community once again looked outward. Driven by ambition and a desire to prove what they could achieve, many families began moving to Mumbai in search of greater opportunity.

This was more than a search for work — it was a statement of intent. Leaving the familiarity of village life, our community members ventured into the fast-paced, competitive world of the big city to show that they could build something new, succeed against the odds, and carve out a name for themselves in business and beyond.

The Founding of Our Samaj

Among those who made the journey to Mumbai, Maharashtra, a small group came together with a clear and heartfelt purpose: to help their Sadharmik brothers — fellow members of the Jain faith — along with their families and any needy persons within the community, so they too could grow and settle well in life.

They understood firsthand the challenges of leaving a village behind and arriving in an unfamiliar city — and they wanted to make that path easier for others. With this in mind, they formed the Shree Jain Visha Oshwal Seva Samaj, an organization dedicated to standing beside Sadharmik brothers, families, and anyone in need, giving them a genuine opportunity to come to Mumbai, find work, and build a life of stability and dignity.

In 1978–1979, this vision was formalized as a registered non-profit organization. What began as a small group of well-intentioned individuals steadily grew from there — reaching out to more families, expanding its network of support, and building the foundation of the Samaj that stands today.

Our Motto: Seva, Sahkar, Sanghathan

Seva (Service) · Sahkar (Cooperation) · Sanghathan (Unity)

These three words capture the spirit that has guided the Shree Jain Visha Oshwal Seva Samaj since its founding — from the small group who first extended a helping hand to newcomers in Mumbai, to the organization that continues to serve, support, and unite our community today.

  • Seva — A commitment to selfless service, rooted in Jain values, that inspired the very founding of our Samaj
  • Sahkar — The spirit of cooperation that has allowed our community to grow and support one another across generations
  • Sanghathan — The unity that binds our members together, no matter how far they may have travelled from the villages of North Gujarat

A Living Legacy

Today, the descendants of these founding families have spread further still — across India and around the world — carrying forward the values, customs, and community spirit first shaped in Rajasthan, nurtured in the villages of North Gujarat, tested and proven in Mumbai, and formalized through the founding of this very Samaj in 1978–1979.

Guided by our motto of Seva, Sahkar, and Sanghathan, the Shree Jain Visha Oshwal Seva Samaj exists to preserve this shared heritage, strengthen bonds across generations and geographies, and serve the evolving needs of our community members — wherever they now call home.
